By now many of you will have started your new term at university and no doubt you are getting back into the swing of things (if you are returning for another year) or trying how to work out how the further education machine works (if you are a first year student).

Some of you may have noticed that your university careers service is rather active at the moment. This time of year normally features numerous careers fairs and events designed to raise your skill levels and general awareness around careers and recruitment.

As a large employer of graduates you will often see HSBC represented at these events by existing members of the graduate programmes. One such individual is Richard (who previously wrote this article about interships). Richard has a great deal of experience in attending and organising careers fairs so heed his words. Some of the advice that he gives might conflict with that of your careers service, if this is the case you might want to book an appointment with a careers adviser to discuss these differences.

I hope you find this useful, as always comments and questions are most welcome.
